Poppy’s Patch started with a love of fabric, sewing, and the slightly unreasonable belief that there’s always room for just one more metre of fabric.

Based in Darwin, NT, we’re an independent fabric and sewing shop filled with beautiful fabrics, fun notions, sewing supplies and all the little things that make creating something yourself even better.

We wanted Poppy’s Patch to feel a little different — colourful, welcoming and not too serious. A place for seasoned sewists, complete beginners, quilters, crafters and anyone who has ever bought fabric with absolutely no plan for what they’re going to make with it.

More than anything, we want to create a little sewing community here in Darwin — somewhere you can find gorgeous fabric, learn something new, meet other creative people and feel inspired to actually use that fabric stash.

Hi, I’m Mikaela 👋

I’m the person behind Poppy’s Patch — fabric buyer, shelf rearranger, class planner and professional starter of projects I absolutely intend to finish.

I opened Poppy’s Patch because I wanted to create the kind of fabric shop I’d want to spend far too much time in. Somewhere colourful, welcoming and creative, where beginners feel just as at home as people who’ve been sewing for decades.

When I’m not in the shop, there’s a fairly good chance I’m sewing, thinking about sewing, ordering fabric, or convincing myself that this fabric is completely different to the other twelve I already own.

WHY POPPY’S PATCH? 🌼

The name Poppy’s Patch is a little closer to home.

Poppy is the nickname of my daughter, Kalliopi, and when it came time to name the shop, it felt right that she should be a little part of it too.

“Patch” came naturally — a patch of fabric, a patchwork quilt, and our own little patch here in Darwin.

So, Poppy’s Patch it became. A little shop named after my favourite little person, filled with fabric, creativity and hopefully a whole lot of happy
